Purchasing Ads for Exposure

Sunday, June 14th, 2009

Purchasing advertisements has been the backbone of most businesses for well over 100 years now and since the inception of the internet business world or ecommerce as it is most commonly referred to, there is no exception. It is completely expected for any business person on the internet to purchase advertising, being able to place their ad on another website that links the prospective customer or client back to your website.

The problem is that some people are putting their links on websites and paying to do so without keeping in mind that the audience that goes to that site is not the type of audience they are trying to attract and basically they are just throwing money out of the window, having visitors that are looking for a new car, won’t help you sell pet products.
Search engines also rely on your link to be of use to the person searching and if you have a bunch of links at many different sites going back to your website, that will increase your ranking, however if the links that are being found do not relate to your website, then it will hurt you more than help you. The best links to your site are from the same niche. Unrelated links could be classed as spam, these links could be ignored by the search engines or there could have a negative effect on rankings.

Making sure that your target audience is the one getting the most benefit from your links through other websites via the webmasters, is something that is a must, however it would be just like throwing your ad on a radio station or channel that no one listens to or watches, or that is not geared towards the type of customers or clients you are looking for.

The key is to test the demographics to what audience you want to target and there are many tools out there to help you achieve this but there are also people who do this for a living and will do it for you to save you the headache of having to do all of it by yourself. After all, you have a store front to run or a business to concentrate on, getting the word out can be tough and having the extra help would be nice and beneficial on your part.

Whichever way you decide to go, make sure that you are placing your ads on websites that relates to your business niche. If you are selling power tools you are not going to want to place your ads on a teen website, makes sense? Additionally, as I mentioned, doing non-sense ads could hurt your rankings on the search engines as well.

Tips For Being SEO Friendly

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

There are several companies that have been around for a long time, yet still have a problem figuring out exactly what it is to get their company a top ranking among search engines and in this article I am going to cover the 9 best pieces of advice to getting the higher ranking and being noticed on the search engines.

1.)  Try to stick with the domain name that you have already and not be pressured to purchase a new one.  A lot of search engines base their rankings on how long your business has been around and it will get you higher into the ranking by keeping your current domain or website.

2.)  When you are building your site, do so for the target of business that you want, not to be recognized within the search engines.  The search engines are going to place emphasis on what your client base types into their search box, so making sure you are targeting the audience you want drawn to your website is based on the types of customers you are trying to attract.

3.)  Do some research on the keywords and phrases you want to use and if you are still struggling, there are tools available such as keyword finders that will help assist you in finding out which words are searched the most.

4.)  Search engines use crawlers to find key words and phrases so you need to develop your website around this mentality.  Keep in mind that this software is limited in its searching capabilities and if your website is filled with drop-down menus the crawlers may not pick up on any key words or phrases located within the drop down.  Make sure you are giving your visitors HTML links and other ways to navigate through your website.

5.)  Most visitors will be getting to your site by clickable links so the images that you associate with your website need to have the alt tags with clear descriptive words in order for them to show up on the searches.

6.)  Keep in mind that the target rich audience you are looking for is going to be found by making sure that the search engines can see the content on your website all while grabbing the attention to the visitor so making sure that all of your tags are visible is important.  Crawlers will not be able to read flash or java.

7.)  Make sure that each page on your site has its own unique tags as well as a title tag because your visitors will not be directed to every page of your site, yet you want to make sure they visit each page that holds interest to them.  Visitors will lose interest if the only information that the search engine is pulling in for them is only found on your first page, when in actuality, what they are looking for exists on several pages.

8.)   Another good tool is to have links from your site added to other sites so making sure your site is worth the link to be added, interesting other sites in adding your link is something you need to consider when trying to find the marketing tools you need for your site.

9.)   Try not to get stuck on the key phrases that work best for your site ranking for too long, instead change them up a little.  After awhile you will notice the key words that work best for your target audience, but eventually, those key words need to be changed up and some search engines offer free tools to keep track and analyze this for you, just research for that tool so that it will help you stay on top of your game.

Protecting Yourself from SEO Guarantee

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

If you have been contemplating using a marketing expert to help boost your traffic on your website, then this is something you need to read.

There are many marketing agencies out there that are there to help you get the word out on your website and are there to help you with getting your website some major play on the search engines and most of them are legitimate agencies.  What you need to be aware of are the ones who are not.

One of the agencies you should stay away from are the ones that promise to guarantee high rankings on the search engines.  There are a couple of reasons why no agency can make that guarantee and have it be legitimate.  The first reason this cannot happen is because the marketing agencies cannot control the search engines.  Search engines will rank your site whatever way they see fit.  Secondly, there are so many businesses and companies out there that may already be doing what you are doing and naturally, because of the way that search engines rank sites, it would be hard to outrank a site that has been around for a long time.

There are, however, good marketing agencies and they will tell you to steer clear of the ones who make this guarantee.  And these good agencies will make their own guarantees and these guarantees are to make sure that they will use the best methods and practices that they know are very effective or at least have been in the past to help improve your rankings.  In short, a good firm will not guarantee future performance based on the past results.

Additionally, a good marketing agency or firm will try to boost your rankings based on the type of ecommerce that you have and they will use very few keywords that have proven to help in rankings instead of watching trends and constantly changing these terms to get incremental ranking points.  Obviously, over time this will change due to the way that people search for things in particular, the verbiage might change and with it, any company that is worth their weight will change their practices with the changing of SEO.

Currently, in the business of e-marketing, there is no certification standard for business and maybe, once these bad practices are more noticed, there will be an implementation of something along those lines where they have to prove that their business has the integrity of the best practices so that you do not have to worry about whether or not you have found a good SEO firm.  In the meantime, make sure you just stay away from companies that guarantee high site SEO rankings.
